Northeast Georgia’s Congressman is #16 Nationally
WASHINGTON, Feb 6 – In its annual rating of Congress released today, National Journalidentified Congressman Doug Collins (GA-09) as the most conservative member of Georgia’s Congressional Delegation and the sixteenth most conservative Member of the House of Representatives overall.

After spending part of this week reviewing Pickens school operations as part of a regularly scheduled evaluation, the SACS review team is recommending that Pickens schools be accredited this afternoon. The review team is meeting with the school board in a called meeting.

Overall, the review they presented to the board was very positive. The accreditation will be official when the SACS commission votes in June.
It is very important that shools maintain an accredited status for student scholarships and college acceptance of student work. Going into the process, Superintendent Lula Mae Perry expressed confidence that they would meet accreditation requirements, but wanted to be sure the schools look as good as possible.

Two former indigent juvenile attorneys have filed a civil suit against the Pickens County government, citing a violation of First Amendment rights and a breach of contract.

Unlike some parts of Georgia, Pickens chose to cancel school last Tuesday; and, with that decision, local families avoided the chaos that quickly freezing roads and snow brought to many students in the metro area.

Pickens County Georgia, February 6, 2014: On Wednesday, February 5th, at approximately 5 p.m., the Pickens Sheriff’s Office responded to the Pickens High School regarding a possible sexual assault. Deputies arrived and learned a 15-year-old PHS student had informed a teacher she had been assaulted at the school. The teacher quickly alerted school administrators and school resource officers of the incident.
Pickens Sheriff’s Office detectives worked alongside the Georgia Bureau of Investigation through the night to determine and verify the reported information.
